Sillery, a small villege, 4 Km from Pedong and 25 Km from Kalimpong, is located on the ancient Silk Route that connected India with Tibet through the Jelep La Pass in Sikkim. Over the past few years, this picturesque hamlet is becoming a destination for travellers looking for a stay in the lap of nature.
Sillery (also called Sillerygaon) has 37 families, most of them are operating home stays over the past couple of years. All the rooms in these home stays have attached washrooms with western fittings. These family operated home stays serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. The cuisine is mostly local vegetarian or non-vegetarian.
Sillery, located inside Paiengaon Forest area, is blessed with majestic view of the Kanchenjungha and the Sikkim hills. From Sillery traveller can walk to Ramitey viewpoint, Damsang Gadi, Sangchen Dorjee Monastery and Pedong Bazar. The top-view of turns and bends of the Teesta River from Ramitey Point is another attraction of this place. From there the longest stretch is visible as it meanders throught the valley hundreds feet below. Damsang Gadi has the ruins of a fort built by the last Lepcha King Gyabo Achuk.
From Kolkata, Sillery can be visited in a weekend. The nearest Rail head is NJP while Bagdogra is the nearest Airport.
